
What is Elwood Nexus Academy?
Elwood Nexus Academy is a virtual learning program through Elwood Community Schools for students in grades 7–12. The program provides flexibility while still offering local support, progress monitoring, and opportunities for students to stay connected to their educational goals.
Is Nexus Academy Completely Online?
Yes. Coursework is completed online through the Edmentum learning platform. Students can work from home while staying connected with staff and support services.
Do Students Have To Log In Every Day?
Yes. Students are expected to log in daily, complete coursework regularly, and answer the daily attendance question posted in Google Classroom.
How Is Attendance Taken?
Attendance is recorded through a daily Google Classroom attendance question. The question is posted each morning at 6:00 AM and must be completed before 11:59 PM that same day.
Will Students Receive Help If They Are Struggling?
Yes. Student progress is monitored closely, and support is available when students need assistance. We encourage students to advocate for themselves and reach out early if they are struggling or have questions.
How Do Parent Monitor Student Progress?
Parents can monitor student progress through Edmentum and will also receive regular progress updates throughout the school year.
Are Live Classes Required?
No. Courses are self-paced and include tutorials, instructional videos, activities, and assessments within the Edmentum platform.
Can Students Participate In Sports and Extracurricular Activities?
Yes. Eligible students may still participate in athletics and extracurricular activities through Elwood Community Schools.
Can Students Attend Hinds Career Center?
Yes. Eligible students enrolled through Elwood Community Schools may still have opportunities to attend Hinds Career Center programs.
What Technology Is Provided?
Students are provided with a Chromebook and charger for educational use while enrolled in Nexus Academy.
What Happens If A Student Falls Behind?
Students who fall behind may be contacted for interventions and support. Consistent lack of participation or progress may result in a recommendation to return to in-person learning.
